A dancer network profile creation flow

Project duration: January 2023 - February 2022

Responsibilities: UX designer, researcher, wireframing, low fidelity and high fidelity prototyping, usability studies

Project Vision

This was a design assignment to practice responsive design for different screen sizes for the certificate program. My challenge was to design a network profile creation flow.

Most of the dancers need a reliable network for being in touch with each other and reach to the audition notices quickly. For that reason they need to be visible online. The goal was to to create a profile displaying all the necessary information that a dancer wants to share about them. I aimed to create a flow to help people create a profile for themselves and save time by a clear instructed flow.

Kickoff
&
User Research

PAIN POINTS

1. Creating a profile which reflects your personal traits and professional ones is not easy.

2. You need to select the most relevant information among many.

The Users

Clara Rosado

Choreographer

Clara is a well known choreographer. She creates beautiful dance pieces and every year she needs good dancers to work with because she wants to create the best choreographies.

Emre is a graduate of ballet department and recently started to work in state ballet. He wants to be seen by known choreographers and be part of important shows. He needs a good profile that will reflect him because he wants to be seen by choreographers.

User Journey Map

In order to find out the right user journey, we need to know the steps that the users go through and in each step I assumed what would be the processes that each persona should go through.

Sitemap

I imagined what would be the main functions in the app with the insights from user journey maps and how they should be displayed on a website. Since my goal was to create a profile creation flow, I focused on that part of the sitemap only. Choosing a linear flow was the best option in order not to miss having necessary information from the users while they register their profiles.

Paper Wireframes

I started to sketch some screen ideas in different sizes which might contain the necessary information for a dancer network webpage. Since my main assignment was to first design a desktop page and create a flow for it, I mainly worked on it and adapted it to the other screen sizes.

Digital Wireframes

I worked on the digital wireframes of the profile creation flow. I also included homepage and profile page designs to support and give a context to the overall design idea of a dancer network page.

Refining Digital Wireframes with a usability study
&
Creating Wireflow

I refined and added some more items on the wireframes and created a lo-fi prototype with them in order to see if the information flow is working and made it ready for users to test.

I needed to find out if the main user experience of lo-fi prototype is easy for users to navigate and understand. In the middle of the lo-fi prototyping process I made a usability study and made the refinements accordingly.

Findings:

1. Users wanted to see at which stage they are in the process so I added a progress bar.

2. We found out that I forgot to add the profile page to the flow so we added it

Final Designs of desktop version

After the usability findings analyzed, the necessary changes are implemented and the design process is concluded.

Responsive Design - Mobile Version

After finishing the final designs of the desktop version. I adapted the designs to a mobile version of the same network platform and the profile creation flow.

Takeaways

With this project I learned to think and consider different screen sizes at the same time while designing a screen. You always have to think how you would resize all the elements of the design.

What could be done next?

I would refine the icons of the design and would change them in my next effort.
